AMBIENTE Views: 9841
Rating: 1   [rate this resource] [report errors]

The scientific staff of the AMBIENTE research division - Fraunhofer institute - has been developing human-centered technologies for work- and interaction environments for many years. This includes our previous work on interactive communications- and collaboration landscapes, so called Roomware© components and smart artefacts, which are both integrated in the environment and also realized as mobile devices. We bring together competencies from various areas of expertise, for instance computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW), interaction design, human computer interaction (HCI), ubiquitous computing (UbiComp), and sensor technologies.

The mission of the ESTO network is to broaden and develop the knowledge base of the JRC-IPTS on prospective science & technology (S&T) developments to supply EU decision-makers with processed, original and timely S&T information of potential policy relevance.

Forschungsschwerpunkt Ambient Intelligence (AmI) - German Views: 9841
Rating: 1   [rate this resource] [report errors]

AIM is a global trade association comprising providers of components, networks, systems, and services that manage the collection and integration of data with information management systems. Serving more than 900 members in 43 countries, AIM is dedicated to accelerating the growth and use of AIDC technologies and services around the world. Our members are manufacturers or service providers of technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID), bar code, card technologies (magnetic stripe, smart card, contactless card, optical card), biometrics, and electronic article surveillance (EAS).

Institute for Prospective Technological Studies - IPTS Views: 9840
Rating: 1   [rate this resource] [report errors]

The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) is one of the seven scientific institutes of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). Its mission is to provide customer-driven support to the EU policy-making process by researching science-based responses to policy challenges that have both a socio-economic and a scientific or technological dimension. The Institute’s main activities therefore relate to providing strategic support for the conception and development of EU policies. Its core competence is the ability to work at the intersection between the socio-economics of an issue and the science and technology involved.

ITA - International Technology Alliance Views: 9837

IBM has formed a consortium of leading academic and industry partners. Together with UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and US Army Research Lab (ARL) we have formed an alliance to perform research in network centric systems. Working as a team with US and UK Government scientists, we want to expand the technological capabilities of the US Army and UK Armed Forces to give them information advantage in challenging urban warfare situations that may include humanitarian relief, civilian and insurgent control, or full combat operations. The future vision articulated by the US Army and UK Armed Forces identifies various dimensions for developing technologies relevant to the future military needs of the two countries.

Philips Research - Technologies Views: 9840
Rating: 1   [rate this resource] [report errors]

Philips has a vision. We believe that, in the year 2020, people will relate to electronics in more natural and comfortable ways as we do now. We believe that current inventions, by Philips and others, will make electronics 'smart'. Technological breakthroughs will also allow us to integrate 'smart electronics' into more friendly environments. This is our vision of 'Ambient Intelligence': people living easily in digital environments in which the electronics are sensitive to people's needs, personalized to their requirements, anticipatory of their behavior and responsive to their presence.

The ERCIM Working Group SESAMI [Smart Environments and Systems for Ambient Intelligence] aims to facilitate the continued collaboration of researchers and practitioners working on the design, implementation and evaluation of Ambient Intelligence systems and applications, on the grounds of on–going, and potentially cross-domain, basic and applied, research and development. In this context, SESAMI will pursue novel insights on designing, implementing, managing and maintaining smart computational environments of any scale, in order to effectively enhance and go beyond traditional support of human activities for any given situation, context, role, mission, and task.

WSAMI: A Middleware Infrastructure for Ambient Intelligence based on Web Services. We are designing the WSAMI middleware to support the abstract specification of Ambient Intelligence applications in the form of software architectures, together with their dynamic composition according to the environment. The proposed middleware builds on the Web services architecture, whose pervasiveness enables service availability in most environments. In addition, dynamic composition of applications is dealt with in a way that enforces quality of service for deployed applications in terms of security and performance through the systematic customization of connectors that dynamically integrates relevant middleware-related services.

Ada - the intelligent space Views: 9842

The brain is our body’s control centre. It allows us to perceive the world around us and react to internal and external stimuli. We are able to move in a deliberate fashion, to learn, to store, recall and link information, to plan, to dream, to communicate and much more. In addition, the brain controls our vital functions. It holds many of our individual characteristics and traits and thus makes us what we are. Ada is a space visitors can enter, one that makes contact with us. Ada perceives us; we can communicate with her and she reacts to us. It is up to us to determine what Ada wants to tell us and how we can induce certain behaviours.
