The Future of Creativity, Arts & Consciousness
A collaboration between c3: Center for Conscious Creativity and Vortex Immersion Media in Los Angeles and the Club of Amsterdam.

Humanity has been creating culture and telling stories since the days of early humans when man applied pigments to the walls of caves and told stories around the campfire. Stories are the river that runs through time and the tools and technologies that we design become the rivulets, streams and whirlpools that give us new ways to express our experiences. The human genius has created such fantastic ways to express and share creativity -- from music, dance, poetry, visual art and architecture to the book to the theater, from radio to cinema, television, and now the worldwide web and beyond...we now have the tools and the ability to express our stories and culture on a global level. At the same time we are learning more about the nature of the brain and human consciousness. We are unlocking the mysteries of spiritual traditions and discovering the power of meditation to activate greater awareness and health. We are learning how the arts and media effect us and how we can effect others with our art and stories. Where are we headed? Let's explore possibilities....

Transmedia, Transformation and the Future of Content

Stories have the power to transform us. They can enlighten our spirit, deepen our minds, open our hearts and motivate us to action. With the advent of new media platforms, content creators and artists are discovering innovative new ways to share their stories and ideas. Emerging new narratives are excelerating -- transmedia storytelling, immersive experiences, cross platform distribution and more... How can the way we tell our stories and the visuals we share through our media and art inspire the evolution of consciousness and help to create a better future for the individual, society and the global audience at large.

Ed Lantz, President and CTO of Vortex Immersion Media, Inc
Immersive Media, Art and Consciousness

To an engineer, art can be seen as the science (or craft) of evoking unique brain states. The skillful use of storytelling, music, visuals and other sensory media can provide a powerful interface to deeper layers of our psyche that are not easily accessible in our daily lives. When the artist evokes in others an affective response that mirrors the artist’s own neural states, we can say that a transmission of consciousness has taken place that is beyond simple linguistic meaning. New immersive media modalities greatly increase the bandwidth available for such transmissions. Furthermore, the ability to create virtual environments that users can embody and explore through these broadband sensory interfaces effectively expands the practice of art into neural world building. The future implications of art in immersive media and virtual environments in our daily lives are explored.

Vigorous Risk

Without the sensitivity to boundaries, personal and otherwise, and without the conscious experience of risk, from the banal to the profound, life just isn't (worth) moving thru. The emphasis on creativity today is about mitigating risk, dynamic versatility and physical experience. The future of our collective agency most certainly depends on reshaping our notions and our experiences about bodies and physicality. Dance participates in this future by projecting models of (dis)integration and enacting scenarios live and in the flesh. The key might be burried in the relationship in todays libininal economy between alpha and beta conscsiousness. How does dance reconcile these antagonistic straw men?

Roni Peled's abstracts have a certain fluency and movement. Some work expresses messages from behind a veil, others are a loving embrace with the darkness, the storm through which we wander towards the light.

"Humanity's only possible future lays in the cradle described as a symbioses of nature, art and technology."
Yugoslavian Artist / Designer / Teacher living and working in Amsterdam.
My favorite material is glass. I like to transform this material, create optical illusions and visual effects. Working with shape and colors - textures emerging from micro to macro cosmos.

job romijn got frustrated making art;
it made him realise that the rest of his life was too random.
the contrast was simply unbearable.
thus he started approaching daily things as art.
that meant adapting or redoing every item in his daily life.
resulting in a process of living art.

Winston Nanlohy is a video artist and photographer.
he is based in Amsterdam - he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld academy and graduated in 2013.
In my creative practice as an artist I am fascinated and occupied with a question of men in their natural habitat and men vs nature.
My specific interest lies in exploring the grey area between these two ideas within the concepts of determinism and liberalism, which I would still like to research deeper both theoretically and practically. In my work I use theatrical and cinematic aspects.
I feel that the impact of drama and the creation of a certain atmosphere provide me with powerful tools to communicate more abstract and philosophical ideas and questions.
I think that elusive impossibility of actually grasping and expressing these ideas form the base of my motivation and give me ‘fuel’ as an artist.
